Because of What I See

Why is it important to have a hospital chaplain in Congress? Because of what I see.

For nearly ten years, I have served families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

I have seen the parent who cannot afford medication, the senior worried about losing care, and the family overwhelmed by medical bills. More recently, I have heard growing concern about groceries, housing, utilities, gasoline, and the everyday cost of living.

These are not simply statistics to me. They are people I have met, listened to, and stood beside.

This is a perspective rarely seen in the halls of Congress.

“What can be done?”

People are tired of hearing problems described without being offered practical solutions. They are also asking another question:

“What can I do?”

Many people feel powerless. They believe decisions are made far away and that their voices no longer matter.

I believe that must change.

Protect Healthcare

Healthcare policy should protect access to care and prevent eligible families from losing coverage because a system is too difficult to navigate.

Protect Medicare and Medicaid and closely review the Medicaid eligibility changes scheduled for 2027 before Nevada families lose coverage.
Require clear notice, meaningful opportunities to correct errors, and practical ways for eligible people to verify work, education, caregiving, or an exemption before coverage is terminated.
Protect affordable individual-market coverage and work to keep premiums and out-of-pocket costs within reach for working families.
Continue efforts to lower prescription-drug costs, including Medicare drug-price negotiation and assistance for people with high medication costs.
Protect federal support for home healthcare, hospice, nursing-home care, and home- and community-based services so seniors and people with disabilities can receive care in the most appropriate setting.
Expand access to mental-health services and strengthen the healthcare workforce through training, recruitment, and retention of nurses, physicians, caregivers, and other professionals.
Address medical debt and improve price transparency so patients can better understand what care will cost before the bill arrives

Reduce the Cost of Living

Families need practical relief from the cost of housing, groceries, gasoline, utilities, and other everyday necessities.

Increase the supply of attainable housing by supporting infrastructure, faster permitting, and incentives that help communities build more homes.
Expand responsible assistance for qualified first-time homebuyers while increasing housing supply so assistance does not simply push prices higher.
Support reasonable options for renters to pay large security deposits in installments and strengthen transparency around fees and sudden rent-related charges.
Use congressional oversight to examine anti-competitive practices, hidden fees, and other market behavior that can unnecessarily increase household costs.
Support reliable, affordable domestic energy and transportation infrastructure that can help reduce the cost of moving people and goods.
Strengthen small businesses, apprenticeships, workforce training, and pathways to better-paying jobs so family income has a better chance of keeping pace with expenses.

Protect Seniors

No senior should have to choose between medication, food, housing, and basic care—and families should not be left without options when an aging parent needs help.

Protect Social Security and Medicare and oppose changes that shift unaffordable costs onto seniors living on fixed incomes.
Build on Medicare prescription-drug protections and make it easier for eligible seniors to obtain Extra Help and Medicare Savings Program assistance.
Protect Medicaid support for nursing-home care and strengthen home- and community-based services that can allow seniors to remain safely at home when appropriate.
Address long waits for long-term care by supporting the caregiver workforce and increasing access to appropriate home, community, assisted-living, and nursing services.
Support family caregivers through respite services, training, and practical assistance for families caring for aging parents or relatives with disabilities.
Simplify benefit information and enrollment so seniors and their families can understand what help is available before a crisis occurs.

Support Veterans

Those who served our country should not have to fight a second battle to receive the care, housing, and benefits they earned.

Reduce unnecessary delays in VA healthcare, mental-health care, and specialty appointments while protecting access to appropriate community care when timely VA care is unavailable.
Strengthen veteran homelessness prevention, supportive housing, and rapid assistance for veterans at immediate risk of losing their homes.
Improve accountability and staffing for disability and benefit claims so veterans receive accurate decisions without avoidable delays.
Expand support for spouses and family caregivers, including respite, training, mental-health resources, and navigation assistance.
Support apprenticeships, credential recognition, job training, and small-business opportunities that help veterans translate military experience into civilian careers.

Prepare Southern Nevada for the Future

Southern Nevada needs federal policy that recognizes our extreme heat, limited water supply, rapid growth, and dependence on reliable infrastructure.

Protect Southern Nevada's Colorado River interests while supporting conservation, reuse, and regional agreements that recognize the realities of a shrinking river system.
Modernize water, power, and transportation infrastructure and pursue federal funding that helps Nevada prepare for continued population growth.
Strengthen electric-grid reliability and generation capacity so homes, hospitals, businesses, and critical services can withstand periods of extreme demand.
Expand extreme-heat preparedness, including support for cooling, emergency response, resilient housing, and protection for vulnerable residents.
Support practical research and infrastructure improvements at Hoover Dam and throughout the regional water-and-power system.
Measure proposals by their effect on public health, household costs, water security, jobs, and Southern Nevada's long-term ability to grow responsibly.

Work Across Divisions

A representative cannot solve these problems alone. Progress requires cooperation, public participation, and accountability.

Work with Republicans, Democrats, and Independents when an idea can improve the lives of the people of District 1.
Publish plain-language explanations of major legislation, including what it does, what it costs, who may be affected, and when important provisions take effect.
Hold regular public listening sessions and town halls and invite residents to comment on major proposals before important votes whenever time permits.
Bring the experiences of patients, seniors, caregivers, workers, veterans, families, and small-business owners into congressional hearings and legislative discussions.
Use congressional oversight to ask what is working, what is failing, where money is going, and what consequences federal decisions are producing in Nevada.
Report back to constituents after major votes and explain not only how I voted, but why.

Explain how healthcare, housing, prescription costs, Social Security, veterans’ services, or another issue affects you and your family.

Suggest a Solution

Good ideas do not come only from Washington. Residents, workers, caregivers, veterans, seniors, educators, and small-business owners often understand problems in ways lawmakers do not.

Join Public Discussions

Participate through online surveys, community listening sessions, public forums, town halls, and comments on proposed ideas.

Contact Elected Officials

Receive neutral information explaining how to identify your representatives, send a personal message, make a telephone call, and follow legislation.

Stay Informed

Follow important proposals before decisions are final—not only after they have already been made.

Your Voice Matters

I cannot promise that every idea will become law.

I can promise that people deserve to be heard, treated with respect, and given honest information about the choices before us.

Representation should not be a one-way conversation.

Government works best when citizens are informed, involved, and able to hold their elected officials accountable.
